Are you interested in a build project? have a Gecko Hummer frame that is sat in garage. Very light frame, think 16 inch size, main tubes are Easton tubes so a quality frame. The frame is well used but could be cleaned and painted. Has chris king headset, rear xtr v brake with lever not xtr, and servicable external bb. also have the following, could let you have, bontranger bars (680 mm I think), deore shifters front and rear 3x 9 speed. deore crank arms with no chain rings but never used (long story), front deore lx disc brake will need to be bled and probably need new pads, front wheel alex rim with deore hub, rear wheel mavic rim for use with v brake, think the hub is XT. so reckon you would need: fork and front disc, front and rear mechs, cables etc, grips, stem (though have very retro steel 1990's WTB stem and maybe if I dig deep enough bontranger stem), chain rings, tyres, cassette. If you are interested let me know and will dig in garage and confirm where it all is and come up with a price.

I've spent a lot of time looking at this type of bike for my lad who's 9 and goes off road. The main thing is the weight. If your lad weights say 40kgs and you buy him a 14kgs it's like a man having a full downhill bike - not much fun (I'll let you do the maths). The rest boils down to choice of riding and skill level. Don't rule out a quality rigid if your budgets tight. As with most things the more you pay the better the kit. Islabike have a fantastic selection. Another option could be a women specific 26" with a Pettit frame etc you'll get a few bargains in the next couple of months with the 2014 models coming out.

If you are still after a bike for your lad i have a marin bay view trail 24 inch wheel for sale! Includes alternate rigid forks and few upgrades. Raced by my boy at go race and national level and has done pretty well on it. Weighs less than similar cubes, giants specialized etc . Better than a Isla as told to Isla by him.
