Evening all thinking of putting a wider rear tyre on my Trek hard tail just wondering how much Tyre clearance you should allow or is its just a case of if it don't rub its fine.
At the moment I'm running panaracer cinder 2.1 with plenty of clearance was thinking of trying panaracer rampage 2.35 as cinders don't go above 2.2 the question is will they fit.

John,
Im running 2.4's on mine and just have enough clearence if the P.S.I is 30, i tried 40 and it wasnt having it on both front and rear it was rubbing to much so 2.35's i dont see you having a problem with clearence.

I had an issue with puting wide tyres on my old Scale 20 HT.
Out in Cyprus I put on a Spesh 2.2 tyre to try and have a bit more protection from the sharp rocks. Although when fitted there was a little clearance, I found that when putting pressure on peddling up hills the wheel was flexing and rubbing on the frame, I had to downsize back to the 2.0 size that originaly came on the bike.

I think you'll find that has something to do with your weight ;D

Don't think I need to worry about the weight issue Just ordered one Panaracer Rampage 2.35 if I have any problems will just have to put it on the front went with the standard compound not the soft saved on the Penny's and they tell me better wear rate. Will keep you posted on the result, placed the order with Martins best friends Merlin sure they can't go 2 far wrong with a tyre famous last words I know Cheers all.

Depending on what you're riding on and how good your wheels are, you might need to leave a bit extra gap in case the wheel goes out of true at some point! If you can true it up on the trail though you'll be OK.
