Hi
After spending the last few years trundling along the prom at Rhos On Sea, I fancied having a go at Conwy Mountain (my old playground when I was a kid). Sadly the bike just won't go into the Alfa, even with the front wheel off. So - any recommendations for a bike carrier, preferably one that fits a boot and doesn't block the number plate as I don't fancy having to play with the Italian/German electrics on the car!
Any ideas?
Cheers
Colin

This may sound silly, but have you tried taking both wheels off ? Probably the best type of carrier is a Saris Bones, not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. They are adjustable so you can set the angle and height of the 'arms' that the bike sits on. Your best bet is to look for one on e-bay rather than buy new. Hope this helps

If I can get 4 bikes & 8 wheels in a Honda Civic you're deffo doing something wrong. Both wheels out and back seat down I can get 2 bikes in my daughters Peugeot 107 and that's tiny!

Cheers Tarbo I'll have a look for Bones. It's alright if you have a hatchback but I don't. It's a 156 that has a boot and the back seats don't go down. I'll have a go with both wheels off just seemed a bit of a pain. Are there quick release wheel nuts available?
Hopefully be on Conwy Mountain soon!

If you live in/near Rhos can you not just ride to Conwy?!
That's what I did when I lived in Llandudno/Rhos.
Never needed a bike rack so can't help on that front though

Hi Eyeball, If I rode to Conwy from Rhos I'd be unable to continue up the mountain due to being knackered! I'd rather get my fitness levels up on the hills than the roads. I like the look of the 156 Sportwagons, pretty quick too when empty I'll check if my axles are hollow (on the bike not the 156!) As you may have guessed, I'm pretty new to the MTB scene... Cheers Colin
