Cheers, got myself a CX bike for a bit of fitness earlier this year, only ridden on the road really, but I might as well give it a proper go! Do you know if we have to enter beforehand, or can we just turn up on the day? Also, does it cost anything?

Do you know if we have to enter beforehand, or can we just turn up on the day? Also, does it cost anything? You can just turn up on the day and enter, they then give you a number which you keep for the rest of the races you do. It really is friendly, welcoming and simple to join in with. Oh, did I mention it was bloody hard too ? From memory, it costs something like £10 a race, which is a lot of money but when you consider all the costs of hiring the venue and putting on the events isn't too bad.

£10 a race is pretty reasonable in my experience, at least compared to downhill/enduro events! Cheers

A bit late, but as they say "Better late than never" On the 14th of September the first round of this year's NWCXG Race Series took place at Bethesda Aports Centre. As this was the first of the season, it was bloody hard with everyone going for it straight from the off which had a lot of people 'blowing out of their arses' by the end of the first lap The course was a good fast course around the sports centre, making use of the banking around the tennis courts to throw in a couple of nasty little climbs that most people had to push up. As is usually the case in these races, there are "races within races", with lots of personal battles going on for every single position, not just first place. All in all a great day out and the chance to catch up with some old friends who I haven't seen since last year's series ended. Yes it's tough, probably the toughest hours racing you will encounter, but really rewarding once it's all over. I think I came 20th out of 34 finishers, however there were a fair few riders that didn't finish, so I'm quite happy with that for the first one of the series. After looking at the results I now know who the people are I need to look out for in the next races. Just a quick thanks to Sandi for coming along and passing me the drink bottle when I asked for it, and also for taking the time to take some pictures, some of which are below. The second race was last Sunday at Mold, but unfortunately I was away for the weekend, so the next race for me is on the 5th October at Minera Lead Mines. Let's just hope it dryer than last year's mudfest

For those of you still unsure exactly what CycloCross involves, here a little video of the second race of the series last weekend at Mold. Well worth a look if just because it's a little different

Last Sunday saw the third round of this race series take place at The Lead Mines in Minera, near Wrexham. Having missed the second round a couple of weeks ago, I was looking forward to getting back out, especially as this week my 10 year old daughter was going to give it a go in the U12 category. The course is a bit of a toughie, with two big grassy climbs which lead to a slippy 'off camber' descent which caught a lot of people out, resulting in lots coming a cropper. Good news for the spectators, not so much for us competitors The start was a bit different too for this race, a 100 meter stretch up a grassy bank which gave most people the dilemma of whether to ride it or throw the bike over the shoulder and run it. Having seen some video footage of the start, it looks like the right option was to ride it. The opposite choice that 90% of us took A record turn out too, with 62 seniors taking to the start line, which obviously resulted in lots of 'fun' at the start ! As well as the usual MBNW members taking part (myself, seismic and Dan), Gill also turned up on her mountain bike to give it a go, which deserves some respect as she was out the previous day with Sandi on a 9 mile run around Moel Fammau It was a tight race at the front with Dan Evens taking an early lead, only to see that clawed back by one of the Marsh Track riders to put him back into second place. However, before we all start to think that Dan has lost it, it must be said that the lad that beat him represents GB in CX and MTB ! Oh yes, not to mention that Dan had come to the race fresh from winning the Horseshoe Pass Hillclimb, and in doing so had set a new course record too, beating the current british hill climb champion in the process. So a big well done Mr Evans Anyway, I'll save you all the race report, just to say that myself, Chris (Seismic) and Gill all finished roughly in the middle of the pack. A result I think most of us are happy with, even if I felt like I had a 'bad day at the office' Once again, thanks to Sandi for the support, passing me the water bottle and not laughing too much when I fell victim that grassy bank. Also for taking some pictures, some of which are below -
