Hi ive bought a new crankset and used an old bottom bracket to fit it to while i wait for a new one and ive hit a problem. Ive put 3 2.5mm spacers in and the cranks still slide about. Im just wondering if its a simple case of adding another spacer (got no more so will have to go out and buy one) or if im doing something wrong. Its bugging me and frustrating not having a little part to finish it off!! Please help anyone its doing my head in! Some photos if ive done it right: Sent from my C6903 using proboards

When you say you've used an old bottom bracket, was this the one you had been using on this frame or is it new to the frame ?
This one may sound a bit obvious but is the bottom bracket the right width for the frame ? Bottom brackets come in two width sizes (68mm and 72mm - IIRC), maybe you're just unlucky that you had the ' wrong' one lying around.
Finally, if the BB was an old one you had lying around, are you sure it's for an MTB and not a road bike ? Again I think they're different widths.

The bb is off my stumpjumper which was fine before i changed it a few months ago. I added 3 spacers as the shell width is shorter on this bike. Can i add another? I have ordered a new bb ill have to check ive bought the right one as i didnt realise they do different widths. And as for cleaning, yeh your right i will clean it all up tonight and re grease everything i just want to get it right first.

Ive had the new bb and all is fine now, needed a 1.8 and 2.3 mm i think, spacer aswell as the bb manual said. Hope this helps for anyone with similar problems!
