Tony & I got out today to give the Conwy council's Her Hiraethog a go, a 25 mile xc route from Betws taking in Nebo, Pentrefoelas, Ysbyty Ifan & Penmachno. All on what looked like old drovers roads & better than I expected but needs to be done anti clockwise so all the climbing's done 1st & then a cracking descent back to Betws to finish. Well worth a go but signs are few & far between, maps are on the Hiraethog website but a bit messy spread out over 5 pages. Also possible to extend by about 10 mile to take in Llyn Alwen.

Thanks Roger for guiding me 'off the beaten track', 24 miles of it I'd never ridden before. Was nice to see two red kites en route, good to see them so far north. Trail well worth another go when it warms up.

Nice one lads. I've been wanting to give it a go after seeing the map near Llyn Alwen last October. Its worth doing then?

Most definitely but the opposite way round to what's on the maps. There's a way up to the top of Penmachno that uses fireroads instead of the mega steep tarmac we came down, a singletrack descent to Penmachno, huge climb with hike-a-bike followed by a doubletrack descent into Ysbyty Ifan. Its then undulating drovers road covered in hard core finishing with a classic descent back to Betws. Don't expect miles of gnarly singletrack tho

Half way round is the Giler Arms, and a few pints of the happy apple in the summer could turn it into miles of gnarly singletrack!
