Hi Ladies and Gents,
I managed to buckle my Cannondale Trail S2 29er front wheel at Llandegla yesterday and I'm looking for some inpatrial advice.
The guys at Llandegla said I should upgrade the wheel set at £140 for the front (Hope & Stans)
On the way home I popped into Alf Jones and they have ordered a replacement wheel from Cannondale for £50. They said in their opinion it could have happened to any wheel and that it's not because the standard rims are cap (I was asking to buy a set of upgraded wheels from there) yet he said he wouldn't bother that it was just an unfortunate event and just as likely on a different rrim.
It's my first time on a 29er, bought couple months ago. Never had any problems on my 26er with buckled rims. Is it common, should I bother upgrading the rims, will it make much difference or should I just go whole way and get a full suspension in one of these sales?
Sorry for the lengtly question,
Myko

I've not seen anyone seriously buckle a 29er wheel and not sure it's much more common than with 26", although in theory they are weaker.
If you can afford it the upgrade is probably worth it as the wheel will be lighter and the Stans rim allows you to go tubeless. I have the Hope Hoops in 29" and would recommend :-)

It's probably not that unusual if you've had a good off, as your thread title suggests? Especially if it's a cheaper spec canondale. I'd upgrade, but I spent £500 on a set of wheels for a £1200 bike, maybe I'm not the right person to advise!
You can't beat hope hubs, I run mavic rims which are pure tubeless and tubeless tyres too. Well worth the money in my opinion.
