Yes, we did get to ride some wonderful rocky trails and the Garburn Pass descent was awesome. However, two thirds of the way down the Garburn Pass Tim's punctures started. It took three attempts to find all the holes in his fat bike tube. By which time he could use the bucket of water given by the kind bloke who's house we stopped at halfway round the ride while waiting for the ambulance to rescue Nick, with a compound fracture of the wrist from a very bad crash on the Stile End descent. Once rescued the rest of us had to get back. On the last descent I took a wrong line and flat spotted my rear rim in a big hole and holed my tubeless tyre. Then despite checking the tyre the next two tubes went down and I rode the last mile on a flat tyre. It will definitely go down as 'just one of those rides'.

Thanks to Colin for leading us around what turned out to be an eventful day. 6 punctures in total and Colin had 3...I wonder where the Flattyres tag came from ...one broken wrist and a mountain rescue taxi. It was a funny old day but sat at home with a beer in my hand I'm thinking it was an enjoyable day out but the hardest part was not eating a pack of chocolate digestives. The couple who looked after Nick made us all a cup of tea and rolled out a tin with chocolate digestives in it, how I only eat 2 I'll never know

Just an update. Nick's in Lancaster hospital and is going to have an operation tonight to have his wrist plated. Apparently it's a nice clean break though - in fact you could see how clean it was when it was poking through his skin! Thanks Colin for leading this and going ahead and organising the ambulance while we got Nick down off the fell. Despite all this it was a cracking route with some quality descents.

Glad to hear there were no further complications with Nick's wrist. A compound fracture is bad enough without bone fragments to worry about. How was his wife about it?
Tarbo, I'll definitely be posting my future flattyres rides on here, so I look forward to riding with you again soon. There are also the Edge so rides I do that you are all welcome to come on, but I'm not sure it's appropriate to post them on here with your sponsorship?

Whilst there was a broken wrist and a black eye potentially it could have been much worse if it wasn't for the helmet which appears to have done its job. He might need to get a new one though Taxi

That's great, thanks Tarbo. The more the merrier tbh. My next Edge Cycleworks shop ride is on 22nd March following my Loughrigg Fell route. I'll get it posted up. While Nick broke his body I've just ordered a new rim and tyre to repair my rear wheel. Getting something a bit burlier than the summer tyre the bike came with and going back to Mavic rather than OEM WTB for the rim. Hopefully they'll withstand my riding

At 17s into the video you will see Simon almost go off into the same rocky stream as Nick did a few moments later. The lead into the corner is fast and blind and as you might be able to tell from the sound of my tyres it's steep and I'm hard on the brakes trying to get round myself. For a newly installed piece of trail I find it's design really dangerous. As we found out, the penalty for getting it wrong is falling a long way into the jagged rocks of that stream. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MDUl7aZ3Ao&feature=youtu.be

I've just sent an email of complaint to:
hq@lakedistrict.gov.uk betterhighways.carlisle@cumbria.gov.uk
It might be useful if others from the ride emails them as well.

Saw you at the bottom looked like an eventful ride. Fella with the damaged wrist seem in good spirits still
