After waking up this morning to go and meet the wrong'un for a spin up Conwy mtn, I opened the curtains and saw it was a pea souper outside. Not to be put off the dog was walked and dropped off at Nain's, bike loaded and I was heading for the Welsh Riviera with 100m visibility all the way until at the top of Queensferry hill where it was bright sunshine...result .
Met the wrong'un and we headed for Conwy mtn via a coffee stop in Conwy and dog sh1t alley climb. We missed out the hike and bike climb/descent but traversed dribblers ridge where we did a left at the end and headed upwards. There was no set plan but we were heading to the descent down to the bridge and stepping stones etc so we had a confab and decided we'd head up to the left and do a wider loop around via the quarry before heading for the bridge.
After we'd gone up and over to the double track near the stone wall we turned right and headed up the climb which produced the highlight of the day.
We had the sun in our eyes as we climbed up what is a drawn out sh1tty climb so we were riding head down concentrating on the trail and, as we were alone and no one else was around, we started having a very "Smithy" type conversation (but it wasn't all one sided . We were discussing (as lads) the various pros and cons of various adult topics and even though we were riding side by side the volume was quite high for some reason. This wasn't an issue as we had the mountain to ourselves, until I looked up and saw we were riding towards a middle aged couple no more than 10m away having their lunch and had massive grins on their faces . A bit embarrassed we said we hoped they hadn't heard anything but thankfully as we passed they were laughing and the lady said she'd just learnt a few things (we thought she needs to get out more or find a new man ).
We carried on slightly embarrassed/heavily amused and had what was a quality day out in the sun ending with chips on the quay at Conwy. Thanks Smithy for a good day out...it was a blast and I'm wondering whether she picked up a bottle of your recommendation on the way home and they're currently putting into practice what they learnt today
A few pics from the day
Sunday must be bath night in the Smith household
