While Jeff 'n' John were up in Scotland riding fatties, a group of us went south to sample the delights of Bike Park Wales. This is primarily a downhill centre with an uplift, but allowing people to ride to the top if they want at a vastly reduced cost.
We got there Friday for around 12ish and after a quick bite to eat we paid our nominal fees and started our way up the 'XC' route towards the start point of the downhill trails. We then tentatively made our way down the Blue trails to get a feel for them and make sure we got the best out of the following day's uplift. After only one run we decided that we would try the Red Routes, these proved to be much better with lots of flowing, swooping singletrack with a good number of jumps thrown in for good measure.
We managed about 5 runs before time (and tired legs) got the better of us and we retired to the digs and some food.
Saturday saw us get to the centre nice and early and in glorious sunshine, to fill our bellies with a full welsh breakfast, before jumping in the mini-bus for the short drive to the start point. As we'd already scoped the routes the previous day, we were straight onto the Red Routes and were soon into our stride. We managed about 12 runs throughout the day with a dinner stop in between.
Too soon it was 16.30 and the uplifts ended, to which I think a number of us were glad as we were knackered !
All in all, an excellent day with some fantastic trails and a very slick uplift service. Well worth the money to save the legs for the descents.
I managed to take a handfull of pictures but to be honest I was too busy enjoying myself to stop and take pictures, so you'll just have to take my word for how good it was
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we go again
Finally, a big thanks to Dan for sorting out the digs for the weekend and to Simon for the lift there and back - much appreciated
