Due to damage to my hayes brakes I am going to replace them. I have looked at brakes in my price range and its come down to avid juicy 3's (which I have on other bikes and am not convinced by), Shimano LX585 or Shimano SLX (which are my preference). Would be grateful if anyone who has used the slx or knows of them could pass on any info. Ta

I just happened to damage my brakes while you were having a lie down in the heather, ;D, that must be the most photographed spot in Derbyshire now looking in recent bike mags

very true, it is the most photographed spot in Derbyshire, but fortunately there is no picture of me eating heather after my off at about 1 mph ;D That ride also finished my juicy 3's off which I swapped for Hopes which the rotors went orange on after one damp ride. Not a good advert for the British is best brand.

Ive heard nothin but praise for the new SLX groupset, the brakes are supposed to be top notch too.

Ive heard nothin but praise for the new SLX groupset, the brakes are supposed to be top notch too. Same here, heard very good things about it. Not my taste aesthetically but reviews and opinions suggest that everything in the groupset is functional, well built and durable. I've always rated the consistency of Shimano brakes
