My dads got a set of Giant MPH 3 disc brakes on his bike. They're a pretty basic brake on a basic bike, and they've seized on so the pads a fully clamped onto the rotors. Its happened while the bike was sitting in the garage and not being ridden much. Has anyone got any idea what might have caused it, or how to fix it?
Thanks alot.

I had this happen to some old Hopes I had on an old bike. A good chance the caliper needs a complete overhaul, new seals etc. You can usually split the caliper in two as it is held together by bolts - to remove it from the disc, but be careful incase you spill some brake fluid. I'm sure theres some guide on the internet/youtube somewhere on how to overhaul calipers. If they are really old/hassle maybe less hassle to get new calipers or even new brakes?

cheers dyls, we'll give it a go. Not really worth spending alot of money on my dad's bike as he doesn't ride often, so we'll try the maintenence option

Happens with my car hand brake if it's left standing for a week or more! Needs a bit of rocking to get the brakes to pop off ;D
My front disc caliper wasn't releasing a while ago (cable disc rather than hydraulic). I took it to bits - splits in half really easy, cleaned and greased it all and it worked a treat.
