Al and Kirsty sorted me a days riding in Cyprus with bike hire (Marin '07 full-sus) and support vehicle for 4hrs riding (6hrs in total with with them driving me from their base and back) plus packed lunch all for 60 Euros. Definitely a bargin as they took me out on my own. I had a great ride and they tailored it to just what I wanted, i.e. techy fun - a bit of a cross between the lakes and the dark peaks but a bit dustier, with lizards. Really nice people to ride with, great trails, and I didn't even get up into the Troodos Mountains - where the WRC goes to break rally cars every year. I am going to put up a review on my site but until then they have pictures of me on thier Gallery. I'm also on thier front page third from the left www.mountainbikecyprus.com/

I take it you were there already on holiday? We were in Cyprus in April a few years ago and it was very nice and warm there..

Shame you didnt get up to ride in Troodos mate, I spent 6 months riding up there in '07 and some of the 'off the beaten track' trails are cracking.
Where did you ride, You know?

They took me on a ride on the Arkamas Penninsular that ended at Aphrodite's Bay. We did that ride as the Troodos still had snow in it. I will be going back though as the mountains looked really nice.

Yes, I was there on my Hol's with my wife Sabine. I was allowed one day of riding even though Sabine is pregnant and couldn't come with me.

I didnt ride up there but We did a kayak exped and the terrain looked good.
Did you get punctured to death by 'death stars'? Little seed pods with massive spikes on them, flippin evil, It might have been a little early for them though. Were they running slime tubes on the bikes? It seems to be a must out there because of thorns and the likes.
When the snow goes up on Troodos the dry ski runs are brilliant downhill sections ;D

No I didn't get any puntures and didn't see any 'Death Stars'. Although Al my guide told me not to fall in the bushes. Most of the bushes there make gorse look tickely!
The bikes didn't have slime but they were fitted with cheaper tyres with thick sidewalls as he found more expensive tyres tend to get slashed to pieces.

Thanks for the link, I just emailed them as I will be out in Paphos for 2 weeks during July, sounds like the Troodos will be good riding.

TBH I think the death stars appear mid to late summer and they get baked hard in the sun. Flippin pain in the ass ;D I went for some thicker tyres when i was there, the rocky terrain just scrapes away at the walls and before you know it theres string hanging out of them ;D We had a girl that came out with us who stacked in down a bank and rolled through about 10 meters of those thorn bushes, she was in a right state, it was funny but it wasnt if you get what i mean ;D ;D poor girl was still pulling thorns out months down the line

Got a quick reply from Cyprus, they are geared up for providing everything if required:
Firstly we are located right next door to Aphrodite Hills so no problem there!! As you will appreciate July is a very hot month in Cyprus so you may be slightly restricted in what we can ride, however if you are not adverse to very early starts then nothing is out if the question. Normally we run a lot in Troodos around that time of year as the temperatures are cooler, techy single track at around 1900m altitude. Great riding! We do however run some techy routes on Akamas with not a massive amount of climbing (Due to Temperatures etc) but some excellent technical descents. This does not mean there is no climbing its just we dont tend to start at Sea level this time of year. If you look on Page 1 Gallery you will get some idea, although the photo's don’t always do the routes justice. The bikes we use are as you see on the webpage "TourBikes". We can do pretty much anything you want, just drop us a line with height, weight etc. If you wish to bring your own pedals we can fit them or if you use SPD or Flats we already have these. Packed lunch, Hydration Packs and helmets are supplied (Bell Ukon) Hope this is of some help, if you have any further questions please fire away.

Let us know what the Troodos mountains were like when you get back. I've only seen them at a distance and on telly, but they look like there should be lots of great riding in them.

I have riden in the Troodos, we were driven to the top of Mount Olympus (aprox 2000m high) then rode down to 600m. As there were all abilities on the ride, we rode single track & forest road. We rode in the peak heat so the air at any speed was like having a hairdryer in your face. Really good ride, took around 6 hrs.
