I've heard good things about Ellesmere Port Halfords/Bike Hut. The lads working there are proper bikers, not just poorly trained guys who aren't into bikes.
I think thats Halfords problem, they don't offer the best training, so unless you know alot about bikes in the first place, you just have to rely on the training they give you.
Where about do you live thepedaladdict? I don't really like my LBS, so i travel to Chester (about 35 mile) to a shop i do like. I buy all my parts/accessories online. CRC offer next day delivery

I hate Halfords too. Only had bad experiences with them. I do love to Wiggle though (and CRC)

Agree with you on that one, check out the prices on things like muc off and lubes etc compared with other shops and online, its daylight robbery.
Revolution in Bangor is top,

Never bougt a bike, or had one serviced in halfords. I nip in now and again for a nosey, but they are way way overpriced.
me and oggy bought 2 \thule roofrack mounted bike carriers online for about £110, (correct me if im wrong oggy) anyway, halfords were doing 1 of them for a more than we got 2 online.
I hope no-one has ever bought one from there.
I wouldnt even get an innertube from there, ebay is the way ahead for them!
I agree with Gar, revolution in Bangor are top notch for service, I use them as my LBS

I wasn't very impressed with ultimate outdoors, I was looking at getting a Trek ex 8 like oggy's, they wouldn't give me a test ride for free and If I did buy one they were not offering any discount, not even my 10% forces discount that the other O U shop down the road offers.
I turned up there one morning at about 8am rady to take a bike out round the back for a try, because thats what time the girl told me to be there, and guess what, they didn't open til about 10, not impressed!
Anyway got my 2008 EX 9 for the price of a 2008 EX8 in chester, I had to nip into ultimate outdoors and tell them!
Im sorry ultimate outdoors, if your not willing to give a little discount you will lose sales.

The only things i have bought from Halfords for a good few years are Muc Off and Finish Line lube, can't even get an inner tube big enough for my tyres from there!

Well... to just show the other side of the coin :-)
I was forced to buy my new road hack from Halfords as it was through our works cycle to work scheme.
Bike is nice, service at POS was fine, bike was well preped and I'll never need to go back there cos I do all my own repairs / service.
All in all my experience was positive..............

To be honest, the lads seem ok in Halfords Bangor. I called in there a few weeks back to put a forum poster up andthere was a young lad with his hair tied back, fair do's he was very helpfull. They couldn't put a poster up though although he did try.

When you say he couldn't put a poster up... was that because he wasn't allowed to or ... no surely not :-)

I think it was a corporate thing, he could have put one up in the staffroom but not in the shop in public view.
I didn't think he would have but it was worth an ask
