Going upto the lake district this weekend , got a pitch booked right at the foot of the Whinlatter forest! Going to leave my brain at home and do the Altura Trail. Noticed few of you have been. Any tips? Got a habit of being scared witless first part of any downhill then I just seem to relax and get on with it. And no, I wont be looking down the edge! Not sure whether to do the The North Face first then the Altura or the other way round, Doesn't matter really, just want to be able to enjoy it. Going on the motorway will be the scariest part, never driven past chester before! Have done the Marin and the Llanberis quarries. And yes, half killed myself at the end of the quarries on the steps to the cafe, but not on the hardest bits!
Will post piccies when I come back in one piece!

Sar last year i road the first one off the trails to open at Whinlatter (north i think ) and i really enjoyed it , quite short and nothing to worry about . I think technically easier than Marin , long uphill climb at start then zig zags back down valley mostly in trees . Campsite in Whinlatter looks pretty good and right at bottom of pass , but i'd still take bike up to centre in car as it's quite a climb up the road . Hope you Enjoy yourself .

Hi Ormite, Thanks for the advice, avoiding as much climb as possible sounds good to me! Im really looking forward to going, first time away without the kiddies and Im more than ready for a break! It will be an adventure to say the least.
