Hi All! I'm a new member - same as all of us really. Just getting into biking and really enjoying it and getting fit again at the same time. I'm probably the most senior member at 52 years old but i've always been active having football trials with Bolton Wanderers and playing county Rugby League for Bury Amateurs. The competitive edge is still there but not like it used to be and I don't feel under any pressure when I'm on my bike. I need to work more on the hills though. I need a few lessons in proper gearchanging. Any takers?!!!!!

Nice to have u with us Eddy.
What trouble are you having with changing gears?
When you are hitting a big hill i think it is always a good idea to be in the correct chainring at the front just before you hit the hill (usually smallest or the middle ring depending on the hill length and steepness) This is because when riding slow and applying a lot of pressure to the cranks (like you do when riding up hill) is is hard to change gear on the front of the bike without losing momentum.
As for the rear gears these can be changed a lot more easily while riding up the hill to give you the fine tuning you need.
Does this help (I dont understand myself sometimes but there is some logic in there somewhere ;D)
