Does anyone know what the deal is with the DH track near Cwm? When it's ok to ride?

I don't know about specific times, Colin, but there was a bunch of guys riding the DH trail on Sunday afternoon. I know RedKite got a permit to ride her horse up in Cwm Woods from Lord Langford so she may be able to advise. Have you ever ridden it? It frightened the friggin life out of me the one time I attempted it Thought I'd stay to the cross country trails / fire roads and Offa's dyke path after that Give me a shout when you plan to ride it though - I only live about 10 minutes slow ride from there.

My mate told me about it and we had a look at it on Thursday evening. We rode the shorter single track run off the right hand track then went and had a look at the full-on DH track. There were a few of the bigger jumps that I wouldn't attempt especially on the HT I was riding. I was really tempted by the big drop down the (I'm thinking how to describe it) cliff? into the cutting through the rocks. Very tempted but with only 115mm on the front and no full face or arm armour I left it for another day. But there is a little daemon in my head saying 'do it....do it...do it'.
However, there were hunters with guns to make it interesting. We were only scoping the runs out and not riding with too much speed, giving way whenever we came across them as they had lots of dogs as well. They told us the woods were full of pheasants for half of the year. Obviously they are somebodies livelyhood so I don't want to disturb that but the runs seemed well built and very established for something the landowner wouldn't tolerate. I want to ride but not if it p%$ses anyone off.

They are currently raising phesants in there, and come september they will be shooting all round there. There are uplifts, the police have been up there before, I met Steve Peat there once.
I freaking love it, awesome super fun track. Please, please don't post it's location on the internet, it doesn't have long until someone has an accident on the last bit and ends up run over, or Lord L gets proper pissed off and ploughs it.

Don't worry I have no intention of posting the location as it looked like something tolerated on a local level but not if hordes of people came along. I was just trying to find out if there was some way of getting in the loop to find out when it is ok to ride. I can see what you mean about an accident near the end but then Darwin made some good points on the issue. You should know the road is at the bottom. I could now go into a big rant about litigation, people not taking responsibility for their own actions and the knock on effect it has on anyone who wants to push themselves but I'll spare you that

If anyone is thinking about riding this one I went up last night and all the entrances had been either fenced off or the gates padlocked. A pretty clear message there! Not sure if it's in preparartion for the pheasant shooting though - nobody wants to get shot by accident!

Shooting season kicks off at the end of septemeber. You will find yourself very unpopular if you are caught riding up there. As said the exits have been fenced, the top gate was always locked.
I'd avoid it unless you want a lot of hassle and perhaps legal action. :-(
