Another excellent event Sounds like some good times posted today well done Dan & Oggy and every one else who took part Felt a bit short changed with the distance like most I'm sure, you try and pace your self for 50k and before you know it your back at the finish Very good show of hands by MBNW think we need some team Jerseys soon Looking in to getting some jerseys sorted m8 Reckon these events are much more enjoyable when the mbnw members are there to have a bit of banter with before and after the event, much better than turning up alone, lets hope we can carry it on and maybe get some mbnw podiums ;D. They are great for giving you somthing to aim for and also for giving you a sense of achivement

Great day everyone ;D. Was nice to meet and put more faces to the names from the forum. Well done Dan - you were that far ahead today I never even met you! As ever, whenever I do the Meridas, I got passed by that bluddy guy from Scott . To make matters worse he passed me twice !! Thanks again Mark for doing the driving today - much appreciated

How hard was that shame all that wet stuff fell out the sky Saturday night and Sunday morning really spoiled a lot of the trails but made some of them great fun ;D My plan at first was todo the 50km but looking at the route map it missed the Dothie valley so I changed up to the 65km route. From what I have heard I chose right had some good fun decents in the trail centre and some bits of the dothie valley I would like to visit the valley again and atttack it with fresh legs. My favorite part was the decent just before the feed station at about 32 km really steep, slipperly mud with a few roots thrown in was really a case of holding your nerve and stay off the brakes as much as possible. There were a few people moaning at the bottom about it being too muddy steep and slippery, maybe they should get a bike with skinny wheels and stick to tarmac. The climb after the last feel station was a monster the hand full of jelly babys made it a bit less painful. the trails through the forest at the top really suffered from the rain and water thick mud and really hard going, I was starting to cramp at this point so had to be really careful not to go stomping on the pedals. A really good steep decent towards the end got a bit held up by someone but was probaly a good thing rather than going hell for leather. Did anyone else nearly take out the photographer on the decent down to the river crossing at the end, why do they always hide in the dark shady bits and they set off a flash gun right in your eyes? for the sheer panic look? it happed to me a Ruthin last year too. I finaly made it back about 4.30 just in time for the heavens to open, hows that for timing ;D

Yes i nearly took out the photographer hiding in the bushes. He jumped out and flashed me i think if we'd known that the 50k was cut short some of us would've gone up to the 65. There was hardly any singletrack on our route. Congrats on the time tho, hardly any 65 riders had finished while we were hanging around!

yeah it was a great day but a shame about it being shorter than 50k that it was suppose to be. The weather holded up for us lot even though the course was a little muddy shall we say :-) anybody found their pics from yesterday yet. Im up for have some MBNW.co.uk jerseys. I guess Oggy would want a all in one lycra suit :-)

Have to say that after yesterday I think I need to do the Ruthin Merida in September. I'm at a friend's wedding (all day/night) on the Saturday and staying overnight in Llangollen. I'm not gonna be mighty quick after the alcohol intake but think it has to be done ;D ;D

There's always the 25k route - I reckon you could do that easily with a hangover and still beat a lot of the other riders! ;D I'm in for the Ruthin one (rude not to as it's so close), might even do the short sportive on the Saturday Not sure about the Selkirk one though, is anyone else planning on going for that one?

The 50km was a tad disappointing with only the last descent really memorable, nice views over the lake/reservoir as we trundled round on the road! It was a surprise to enter the town with only 38km showing on the computer.
Nick Craig passed me on that final descent, he was really flying looked like he was floating, real style! I finished just behind him at about 2.00pm

I did email the mtb marathon folks yesterday asking why the 50 became a 40 - haven't had a reply as yet. I did also complain about my t-shirt - maybe you were all being really nice to me at the pub afterwards but I looked a complete dickhead what with one sleeve being longer than the other and the neck being a good 2 inches over to the right. Jill said I looked de-formed when she got home and seen me As for the other rides this year - I'm still thinking of Selkirk and have signed up for the 50 at Rhuthin ;D

Jill said I looked de-formed when she got home and seen me Haha I honestly didn't notice it at the time. Wear it on the next forum ride so we can all have a laugh. (I'll go and check mine now as I've been wearing it all day ) I'm wondering if they cut out that big loop for being too boggy or summat, would have been nice if they added in another loop somewhere though to make up. Apparently the 100km route is a nominal 100km and is often 75/80. It said on the board that the long route was 80 so they can't say ours was a "nominal 50k"!
