I've just been on the Merida website for the first time this week and they've changed all the courses. Bets on people getting lost due to missing signage again? The 50km route is 45km and the climbing has reduced to 1500m. I can't remember what the others were last time so can't compare but they have redone the 70km and 85km routes as well. They've taken out a long slog of a hill because people didn't like it and on the 85km course certainly there's a 60m climb which they reckon everyone will be walking up. On the plus side they reckon they've made some improvements to reduce bottlenecking at singletrack sections. We shall see!

That was excellent! Results from the man in the tent at the time were: 8th Thistle 3h15 20th Simoult 3h37/47? 40th Davydonn ..... MarkyP 4h10 ish Weather was fantatstic. Sunny all day with a stiff breeze on the top of the hills to keep everyone cool. The climbs were beasts - went on forever followed by short, sharp technical downhill sections so you didn't get a rest. Thanks to Davydonn for doing all the driving. Well done to Simon for winning another water bottle for knowing where Ruthin was and to MarkyP's lad for also winning one The professional photos will be out next week sometime. Here's some of mine (click for bigger): The fat cat of Selkirk: £7.5k of bike: Avon midge cream found in the B&B!

Well done lads, some very good times there. Also didn't realise how close Selkirk is to Glentress/Innerleithen.

Fookin hell, well done boys. Some good results there, expected nothing less from Thistle to be honest. He's definitely got some legs on him. How was the freeride bike Si? Don't you just love that new bike feel.

Well, as Thistle noted above - what a day ;D In my MTB career of 15 months it was definitely the most draining ride I've done. We positioned ourselves within the first third of the start out line which worked quite well. I think the pace car went out for about 3 miles but to be honest it was a fairly fast pace from the start (especially with Nick Craig leading the bunch ) A mixture of relentless gravel and slidy grass climbs ensured no bottlenecks and the majority of riders were left with fairly open riding space. Feeding stations arrived at 15k & 35k for us doing the 45k ride which after a quick stretch and getting some fuel on board led into.....yep some serious climbs Some great decents especially one which dropped steeply for about 40 metres followed by a sharp right hand bend - take the wrong line and you were tumbling down. Funny to see 2 of the lycra XC boys in front of me doing just that ;D ;D - I think I actually jumped over his back wheel on the way down! After the 35k fuel stop with just 10k to the cheering fans at the finish I was thinking it was the home straight - could not have been further from the truth. The next 7k was a killer - unlike me to feel like giving up - but I was close . But a little talking and swearing to myself got me there ;D Overall a great day combined with similar company from Pete, Dave and Mark (plus the classic line from Mark's son to him at the finish line - 'Daddy, why were you so slow?' - He got a spot prize for saying it as well ;D Thanks again to Dave for the driving. On a final note the new bike went well. Will need to play around with the suspension a little but really pleased with the feel. Left the forks down to the reduced travel for the entire ride so not the ideal ride for the first outing (which I knew anyway . Prob be a change of tyres for Ruthin. Can't wait to get out properly and put it to the test ;D

Top riding yesterday boys. I was having a bad day at the office. Finished around 4hrs 10m. Really struggled after 20k for some reason? I had upped the training + lost a few pounds since the last event and felt worse for it! Out again on the 16th on the brechfa enduro.
