That climb up to Moel Famau at the start took me by surprise last year, horrible climb. At least this year i know what to expect!

Hi Neil, a few responses to your questions.. What type of surface should I expect. How it made up....... singletrack, fireroad, hard, soft etc etc. It's made up of a mix of tarmac, bridlepath, grass, singletrack, fireroad. It basically takes in a few of the Ride The Clwyds routes www.ridetheclwyds.com/rideclwyds/index.asp Last year the route was road from Ruthin up to Moel Famau carpark (bitch of a climb!) and then off road for a good bit. Not sure what it's going to be this year thoughIf it rains (when it rains) will mud tyres be required. It's pretty soft and wet in places - it's entirely up to youAre you guys going to be doing this as a group? That's always the intention at the start ;D You won't get left behind though Cheers mate, The reason I asked was to do with tyre choice. I bought a pair of speed king supersonics last week. On paper they seem like the most suitable option. They're fast (I can confirm this) and clear mud well, although they can be puncture prone ( I can also confirm this ). I'm gonna run some latex filled tubes for the Merida. Thistle SiMoult (probably hungover ) Punk? Ninja Penguin? Plasticfantastic? Plasticfantastic's dad? Davydonn - 50k, probably the short sportive on the Saturday as well, anyone else up for it? MarkyP? Oggy 50k maybe 75k Dan- 100k. John? NeilJ Al Nosospeedydaz 75k maybe Wheelist - 50k, but dreaming of 100. Depends how my legs feel in the next couple of weeks. Neil 50K.

Be careful with the tarmac climb up to Moel Famau lads, I somewhat got caught out there last year as there were so many cyclists on a long steep narrow road. I probably started about 1/2 way down the field and then those of them in front of me got off to push up the hill and because it's so narrow it then caused a tailback of people pushing up!
Gutted I'll be missing this as well.

That's no excuse Campbell! They even have a 25km route if you want an easy day. Having said that, a photographer and some support is always good. ;D The exact route gets posted up at the 'event village' from Saturday (maybe Friday night). There's no news on the website yet and there's only a week to go

I'll keep an eye out. To be fair, around there, even the 25k's gonna hurt

I'm tempted to camp over. After all we've paid for it, and the pasta party . I have a new tent which I've not used and Ruthin is close enough to run home if it all goes wrong ;D

I've just checked the website and noticed the start time is 9:30am Normally it's 10 am so make sure you are all there in plenty time! Don't want to be starting half an hour late do we The course profile is up too. Link here www.mtb-marathon.co.uk/events/2009_course_ruthin.pdfLooks similar to last year with a good tarmac climb up to Moel Famau to get us started
