Anyone know any routes around here, other than the waymarked fire trails? More importantly, anyone got a map that I can look at. Now that I am working in Northwich I pass here everyday, seems like a good place to stop when I am on lates to get some pre work miles in, or after work to earn my tea.
I seem to remember some people mentioning it a while ago, may even hve been Sausage Butty???

Yes mate, it was me! ;D I personally don't like the proper waymarked trails around Delamere, i think it is the sort of place where you need to park up and make your own route up. We have spent a good couple of hours riding around the forest without covering the same ground, and it's not all fireroad, there's some good little sections of singletrack here and there. Oh, and don't go there for big mountains, because there isn't any! ;D Stopping by at the skills area is always good fun. Even if you don't fancy attempting the stuff yourself, there's usually some kids there that are worth watching. I suggest parking up at the visitor centre, turning left as though you're going straight back out, then turn immediately left over the railway bridge. From there the forest is all yours.

rode there last night for the first time in a while as most of the good singletrack was a bit overgrown during the summer. bracken has started to die back a bit now & should be loads better in a couple of weeks. as mentioned, it's best to have a bit of an explore, but can take a while to find the best bits. can send a tracklogs file of route that includes some of (not all) the better bits. will be starting night riding there again in a month or so.

there is a lot of good little routes off from the fire roads. there is one good climb up to the top mast. i go there sometimes with lads from work and one lives about 2miles from the forrest so we park at his and ride in over from the mast and the decent down the other side is very quick. the only thing that lets it down is all the sand and dog walkers that don't pick up the dogs shit.

Some good tracks if you explore a bit, Delamere bike club used to have a 10 mile loop round there that was mostly singletrack and away from the walking tracks, mostly rooty on the tracks. A couple of the ditches have been covered with a cheapo version of llandegla logs ;D you will know what I mean when you come to them . Do you know if there is anyone on here from delamere mtb tours as they do a Foresters trail which they describe as "24k of the best and continuous singletrack in Cheshire which cannot be found on any map". I think all there rides start from Kelsall.

I don't think the Swampshore (9) is there any more, i think it's rotted away and / or been dug up by the FC.
Don't forget to stop by at the Skills Area (12), always good for a laugh! ;D

Yes, the swampshore (9) has been taken out. Thats the route that I as good as follow, the only difference I make to it is that I go left just over tthe bridge after fox howl onto the singletrack round there (complete with little log bridges )and then folllow Battleaxe road before going left to meet up with the map at the bridge. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like the map is showing the Old Pale dh track that I dont think exists any more.
