As a Mountain biker first (cough) I used to have it in for the Roadies to, but since get a road bike it has really helped my fitnes and I think you will find most pro mountain bikers even the downhill guys train on a road bike to, afterall Miss Atherton wrecked her season by colliding with a pickup whilst out on a roadie training ride. Its all rather daft this us & them attitude, what next women only rides ;D.

Did I mention I overtook a couple of roadies in Loggerheads on the Merida yesterday? (just realised they were a FCN 6 and I was a 10 - does the silly game apply to non-commuting?)

I do a lot of the darkside stuff, in fact more than I use my mountain bike But the thing is, this is a montain bike website. It does exactly what it says on the tin !!! We've had this arguement on the VW site I use, whether to put a thread for post 1967 beetles on there. The resounding response was to keep it as it was. I think the same should be done here. However, if there was a post in the plan your rides section for a road bike ride, I would see that as acceptable. In fact I could do with some more riding partners If it's not broken, don't try to fix it !!!

Isn't this Forum primarily to get Mountain Bikers together on bike rides?? KEEP IT SIMPLE-IT WORKS!!

omg oggy, you have embraced the dark side on a serious note im all for it, the more people on the site talking and planning rides the better, at the end of the day, what harm will it do? there might be roadies out there that want to try out mountain biking there might be mountain bikers (like myself) that want to buy a road bike but shhh

Intresting topic Oggy I understand the site is called Mountain Biking North Wales and it should do what it says on the tin, but....as a keen cyclist that enjoys both mtbing and road cycling, I think it could be good for the site. Personally I know of several members of a local roadie club who also ride their 'darkside'. They are good riders who as Lycra boy Dan says can offer the forum alot of knowledge. At the end of the day we all use this site/forum because of our passion/enjoyment for cycling. The number of members is steadily growing so what harm would it do if a roadie section was on the forum. During August Bank Holiday w/e I rode a 2 day tour to which I posted on the forum. This was clearly marked as Darkside Content on the title but it has still had 140 views to date. Therefore the figures would suggest an interest by some but not all. If it does happen I promise not to post any pictures of just tarmac.

I can't see what benefit roadies would bring to this forum; they don't understand banter, they're solitary creatures who only train in secret, they shave their legs but don't really know why and they always smell of deep heat ;D ;D ;D

they don't understand banter, It may seem that way to the uninitiated but they're just on a higher level. Leg shaving is a truly shocking affair, in fact I was told on Saturdays club ride that "I needed to shave my legs before the Crit on Sun night or they'd all take the piss out of me!" Um, hello! Fortunately for me after a mere 76 miles and 1400meters of climbing on Saturday morning my legs were in no fit state for racing Sunday. ;D

theres a couple of roadie clubs around here and if you look on their forums(which I do ) you'll see they don't say a lot. they don't find it funny when they do something that makes them look stupid either-not like us! however I must admit to the odd spin on my road bike, but have never mastered that 'mean ' look they are so good at I do like to make sure my legs are nice and smooth tho ;D

That 'mean look' is due to the fact that the soul has left the body ;D ;D

but have never mastered that 'mean ' look they are so good at Looking at the photos from the tour ride I think I've mastered it Leg shaving is a truly shocking affair On the Merida some of the Marshalls told me I was in 6th place (I wasn't, I was 10th ) but the bad news was that 4 of them were girls. I told them they were probably just blokes in tight outfits who had shaved their legs and they seemed to agree that was quite likely ;D I don't understand why blokes do it though - it's not worth that hassle to save 0.01s in a race is it?
