Hi everyone My name is Damon, based in Chester, 38 and overweight ;D I've just bought my first MTB for 12 years, a Trek 8000. I have previously owned several Orange MTB's but not ridden off road since. I am recovering from a dislocated foot and snapped tibula whilst playing football early in 2009 so getting back on the bike is a good way to try and get back in better shape. Today I am going out for my first ride and honestly I am apprehensive, not because of getting out but because how bad my lungs are going to hurt But they won't get any better sat here on my couch! So when I have a better base fitness I'll be looking to join in some group rides. Till then I'll hang around on here getting to know the 'place'. If anyone see a guy struggling this afternoon at Llandegla on a Trek with a red jacket it will probably me...all the kit and still sh*t My ride..

Welcome pal, love the bike, very nice.
Get yourself out on the Slow Ones rides, very relaxed pace and will help build you up a bit.

Hi Damon Welcome to the forum! Like Gus said, come along on the "slow ones" ride - we go at the slowest persons pace (usually mine ;D) and we have a great laugh along the way! We would rather be out going slow than sat at home on the sofa like you say! Hope we see you soon

I learnt on my first ride in 12 years.... 1. I am so out of shape after a 12months exercise lay off and too much beer I am soooo out of shape! Stop on climbs 2. When you think to yourself 'my left cleat feels strange' don't leave it until you need to get off quickly to find out its loose and end up in the classic 'TIMBER' maneuver

Tarbo: did you drop yours off at The Edge last week? Sure did My mate's the mechanic there, said someone came in Monday looking for a new bike, saw mine and bought one the same ;D Didn't give me any commission though You were just looking at it as I was walking out IIRC. You won't be disappointed in it, I can promise you that As everyone else has said, get yourself out, your fitness will soon improve
