This is what they say mate.
The biggest news for the 2010 season is the addition of a 2nd Exposure Light Big Night Out (Night Marathon) and the introduction of a new English round at Grassington. Further to this we are working on turning the 2nd round of the Chain Reaction Cycles MTB Marathon Series into a mini cycle festival which besides the main MTB Marathon will host the Road Sportive, off-road criteriums and a selection of other events. There will also be a Road Sportive added to the line-up at the Selkirk round. Watch the website for updates.
For the last few years the MTB-Marathon series has consisted of 5 events starting in mid April with the traditional Exposure Light Big Night Out night marathon and going all the way through the Summer bringing the series to an end around mid September with the final round in Ruthin, Wales. The 2010 series will stick to this well proven format while adding a few interesting changes to the line-up.
As in previous years all events will have four different courses to choose from so that every rider can find a suitable challenge. The exception to this rule are the Exposure Lights Big Night Out weekends where there is one course length on Saturday night and three-four different lengths on Sunday

There are 2 seperate dates for builth, is there going to be a normal marathon in both april and may? Yeah looks that way. Crickhowell has been dropped for some reason. Seems daft having two courses at Builth, especially straight after each other I would have thought they'd t least consider having one at Llanwrtyd (as long as they can put the signs out next time and find a bigger field to camp in!) According to the entry pack, the 2 routes at Builth will be completely different. Is there going to be a normal and night marathon in Ruthin? Looks that way. Not a bad thing though. Us lot do night rides around there anyway ;D

Also noticed that the road sportive has been dropped at Ruthin and is at Selkirk instead. There were plenty of wimps in the pasta tent at Ruthin complaining about having to ride up the horseshoe pass!

How much is it to enter this year??
Been doing these since 2003, really good for the first 2 to yrs then got really boring. Bar the new venues, the Builth rounds are a heap of sh*t. I took a break from them in 2007 to do better things, then a mate of mine twisted my arm to do one in Builth, I agreed :-( the first 8k was on tarmac then mile after mile after mile after mile after mile after mile of crap undulating boggy marsh land then more tarmac then a bridle way for a few miles then a loop round a field then!!! back along the bridle way that we just rode and to make it worse in to the flow of the riders that were behind us!!! Oh to top it all off it was 60% of stuff that we'd rode in the past 4yrs. Not good for £32 and hours of travelling.
I think they are really strugling for new terrain in the Builth area, they should ditch the venue for good and stay with Crikhowell and Llanwrtyd. Dont want to moan but for the money, to ride the same old routes over and over is a bit Hmmmm!! and imo it's not really Mtb terrain. There rant over :-)

Fair comment m8, i seem to be hearing a lot of people say they dont like the events as they are boring, and £32 is a lot of cash to ride a crap route. Saying that I enjoyed the Llanwrtyd this year shame they aint running that again.
What other events would you recommend, fancy doing a few this year includuing the obvious Dyfi and maybe a couple of 24hrs team events, just wondering what alternatives to the MTB marathon series are avalible?

£32? The entry form says £30 (same as last year) Last year's Selkirk route was good and so was the Ruthin one (even if most of us had ridden most of it before). I didn't like the Llanwrtyd one but everyone else seemed to be raving about it apart from it being cut short. If the Builth route is boggy maybe they should have moved it to later in the year and found an alternative, more weather resistant one for early in the year!

Last year's Ruthin one was my first attempt at one of these and would definitely do it again. Then again the weather was fantastic which helps!
Not fussed on doing the whole series, but will certainly be up for some more enduro type events next year. Isle of Man one looks interesting too.
