Only 112 hilly miles - pah - too easy. I did 170 hilly Welsh miles once (15 years ago) - and was even walking (like John Wayne) the following day. Tell you what Dan - we'll do it as a team - you do the 100 and i'll do the 12.

Eek - i best get on a diet then!! I was an 11 stone whippet when i raced properly and was getting top 10's on the Horseshoe Pass hillclimb!! I put 2 stone on when i gave the racing up to play first county and then international badminton - I was that scrawny!!

It sure would be a good one to tick off the list However after driving up some of those climbs in the past, I think 112 mile could be that bit too much for me ..................................................................I am tempted though

This is Hardknott Pass, supossedly the hardest climb in the country, and this is the easier side You hit the bottom of this climb after 90+ miles. I rode up this last year on 'The Lakeland Loop', and the picture does not do it justice. You also have to negotiate cars going up and coming down it, with the odd passing place for them to pass each other The other side is that steep that I saw people pushing down !!! Good Luck

And people were whinging about having to do the Horseshoe pass after 85 ish miles on the Gore sportive the day before the Ruthin Merida ;D I have been in a car driven over the pass - was not a pleasant experience.

I've done the Horseshoe at race pace - its actually not that hard really - just long with the toughest section up through the trees after the Brittania. The Hardnott is a totally different kettle of fish - so much steeper and kills the legs. The Fred Whitton does the hard side heading in the Ambleside direction so confused by the above really - its a killer climb. www.everydaycycling.com/edc/news/news2008/20080804_school_of_hardknotts.aspx

[ The Fred Whitton does the hard side heading in the Ambleside direction so confused by the above really - its a killer climb. Paul, I'm sure the picture I posted is the side the 'Fred' goes up. This is the western side, you do Hardknott then Wrynosse, which is just as steep but not as long. I think the confusion is about which side is the hardest Having never riden up the other side (and never wanting to ;D ) I can't compare them. Agree that it's truly a killer climb, I used a compact chainring with a 26 on the back. Anyone that can do this on a standard gets my total respect
