The way i see it though: If your cold, your not riding hard enough I agree that during the warmer months when riding the artificial trails thats a fair strategy - but in winter in the mountains when you have an off or your bike breaks then its not so good... but its each to there own. last night watching a perfect sunset over the sea and a perfect moonrise over Snowdon.. didn't need a coat :-) Would it not be better to invest in a few base layers and jerseys? That way its easier to regulate your body temperature to the conditions, rather than one big coat. It also means that a packable wind/waterproof jacket can be used all year round instead. My Altura jacket is wind/waterproof and breathable. Its also packable to the size of an apple (Be it a large genetically modifed apple). Its perfect for showers in the summer and easilly stored in my Hydropak. In the colder months, i have a few short and long sleeved base layers and a long sleeved jersey which i'll wear under the same jacket.

I went to the Edge today to look at one. The one I ordered from Wiggle came in the wrong size so I sent it back and they didn't have stock of the size I needed. Not too impressed with the service. 3 ppl working there, only me in the shop for 20 minutes and they passed me about 5 times and not a single word. Pi$$ poor in my opinion. Virtually nothing in the way of cycle clothing. So I'm still looking for a jacket myself again.

OK there is a misunderstanding here, the waterproof top that I'm looking for is exactly that - a waterproof top. I certainly don't want it to have any thermal insulation, I've enough smelly Hansen stuff here to do that job. But I am looking for something in a slightly heavier material than a "normal" cycling top. Ideally with a bit of reinforcement round the shoulders but I've seen nothing like that. trouble is all the coloured pics in the world don't help me as much as getting a grip of one , bit like sex I guess :-) So it means a bit of a trek round the retailers for a few weeks, often visiting places like that causes collateral damage as the boss spots something she likes.....

As I was walking through the pissy smelling subway on my way there I thought about you working just round the corner and I thought "Jeez, I hope I don't bump into him!" ;D

TBH I thought Chester was pretty quiet today. But, true to form, there was no shortage of HOT women wearing virtually nothing in the lovely sunshine. I love Chester for that!

This is impossible. Do LBS's stock anything?
I tried The Edge in Chester yesterday looking for a jacket, I've been back to Chester again this morning to the Spesh Concept store and Bike Factory and tried my two LBS's. Could I get one...NO! Unless I wanna spend £100+, but then they were all limited in the sizes they had. No wonder online shopping is the way forward.

Sometimes online is the only way mate, especially if you want something ASAP.
The last couple of things i've had from The Edge weren't stock items and so they ordered them in for me. I ended up waiting a couple of days longer than if i'd gone to Wiggle, etc, but i'm in no rush and it's easy for me to pop in anytime in the week.

I bought the Endura laser last year from the shop at CYB, think i paid 40 quids for it but you can get it on the net for 35 quids. Find it a great jacket for sticking in my camelback and putting on when the rain starts, it packs away nicely in to its own pocket and is totally waterproof, thi months mbr have given it 10/10 aswell. The only thing I would say is that it is not breathable and can get a bit sweaty but it is a real good jacket for the cash, a good riding fit to. I will be after a more breatable jacket for winter that i can wear all day and not just when it rains, but top marks on the endura
