Hi guys and girls Was thinking of doing the Ruthin round 19th September. I know it is a long time away, but think it will be a real test of the summer riding. There are three distances Half Marathon (40-50km), Mid Marathon (60-75km) and the Full Marathon (80-100km). Not too sure at this stage if I want to do the full marathon, but if we can get a MBNW Group this could be a lot of fun. Its not a race as such more of a fun ride with finishing the distance the aim. You can sign up for the full distance and if on day you are struggling then you can ride the shorter distances. The cost is only £30 per rider, for more details the website is - www.mtb-marathon.co.uk

Usually quite a few from the MBNW crowd - I missed the Ruthin one last September as I was at a wedding but a few did it (think it was quite a tough one with some nice climbs ). I'm gonna see nearer the time, no doubt there will be a reasonable MBNW turnout anyway

I did the Ruthin one a few years ago and really enjoyed it - quite a fast routethat would suit a hardtail imo. The only thing I didn't like was as there was a mass start, around 800 cyclists were trying to go up this long steep tarmaced hill (at the start) and as the road was narrow, once a few people ahead of you stopped to push, everyone else behind then had to dismount and push. Maybe a slightly different start times for the different distances would work.
Nonetheless well be back there this year and if possible I wouldn't mind doing a few of the earlier ones as well. Great atmoshphere at these events as well.

I liked that bit ;D I pushed to the front though so didn't get held up too much and there's some scope to get near the front as you go up the A494 before the hill starts. It was also good seeing people on singlespeeds and cyclocross bikes snapping their chains going up that hill ;D

Seems to be a few off here have opted for the Grizedale Challenge which is the same weekend as this I've already entered the Grizedale one. As I ride the Clwyds on a regular basis, I begrudge paying £30 to ride there. That's not a critisism of the event or organisation as I'm planning on doing the Grassington one on the 4th July, just me being a tight fisted bugger ;D Just thought I'd try somewhere a bit different

tfbentley - I'm sure there will be a bunch from the forum who will do this. Now that I've ridden more of the Clwyds with the folks off the forum it will be a bit if a sore point paying to ride what I've done before for free but they are good fun and there's always the camaraderie as everyone finds another hill in front of them! I'll probably do the 50km one as I want to enjoy the experience, not feel as if I'm in purgatory

You can sign up for the 50km route and if you are feeling strong when the 75km route deviates from the 50km (I think it's after 15-20km when you get to Moel Arthur, but it might be near Maeshafn) ;D
They will spray paint your number to show you've changed distance.
