Ive been thinking of getting myself some lights in preperation or winter night riding. One thing I have found out is they are not bloody cheap and although i didnt want to take a second morgage out to pay for them i wanted somthing half decent (buy cheap buy twice rule) Farty marty the lycra king recomended the light that he bought last year, so I checked it out on the net and its had some brilliant write ups. I phoned lightspeed up in Betws Y Coed and just so happened they had the exact light on sale, the rrp is about £160 ut i got it for £100 and i think the cheapest I could find it on the net was £125 so thumbs up Lightspeed and cracking deal. I couldnt believe the size of the thing, its tiny (and I am talking about the light before the usual suspects get that one in). The light inself in tiny as is the battery pack which just mounts underneath your stem. It has 3 setting High/Low and Flash and on high it certainly packs a punch. On high it is 150 Lumens and has a run time of 3.30hrs which will be extended to 7.00 hrs used on Low. So im very impressed so far an will try and get out one nite this week to give it a test and give you some more feedback. On the hunt for helmet lights now but think they will have to wait until next payday Heres the wiggle link to it, they have publised all the bike mag reviews as well. www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/NiteRider_MiNewt_X2_LED_Front_Light/5360031093/

mmmmmmm u have me thinking now, just how bright are theses lights in general, when I used lights it was for road cycling than so it was more of a case of just being seen and taking in to account having street lamps etc, So thats gets me on to my next question how much of the trail can u really see or is it a case of fingers crossed

Not a lot but thats what makes it fun ;D ;D
I aint done any night riding for a few years but what i do remeber is that with the lights i was using back then i could see enough, it just makes it feel like you are going faster than you actually are.
Going to need a helmet light as well as everyone says that you need to light up where you are looking as well as where the bike is pointing, but when i used to do it a few years back i never used a helmet light, it does make sense tho.
Ill bring the light along on wednesday to show you, if you fancy having a blast of it you are more than welcome to borrow it.

Like oggy says I got myself one of these last year and went out a couple of times at night. When you start looking for lights its a minefield, just so happened that i had read a review about these in a mag and it got a good thumbs up. In my opinion these do the job at a good price. Heres some pics of it mounted. Its very tidy, small and tucked out of the way, The only thing to watch is the battery pack strap can wear down the paint on your stem, so well worth putting some tape round first. I have bought the same light but lighter in weight thats helmet mounted and can be charged via USB as well as mains www.niterider.com/prod_minminiplus.shtmlPics when i get it!
