Im a bit dis heartend at the moment as I put a lot of effort in to my winter training and had some good race results at the start of the year but now the summer has come I have slacked on the trainig and have just been riding with no real pace and have not been entering any races I really need to start doing more training rides rather than just ambles around the trails. So If anyone fancys some high paced stuff with some intervals etc over the next few months then give me a shout as it would be great to have some one of a similar pace to do this with and to push each other These rides can either be on the roadie or mtb

Easy to get 3 races a week in and cheap too. Monday rest. Tuesday night chain gang. Wednesday night 1hr Criterium race. Thursday night club TT. Friday rest. Saturday social ride at steady pace. Sunday road race. You just need to come towards the light mate, it's nice over here. TLI race Anglesey on Wednesday 23rd, 1hr of racing around the Ty Croes circuit for the princely sum of a tenner.

Its sad to say but you may have a point no matter how Gay it sounds Its just not possible to enter mtb events every week due to the cost and the traveling involved Im going to try a few more time trails as I actually enoyed the one the other week I think one of the biggest things holding me back is having no one push the pace up since you dumped me for the roadie gang ;D

I think one of the biggest things holding me back is having no one push the pace up since you dumped me for the roadie gang ;D I was in the same situation though, there was no one to push me in our riding group and the only way to get fitter is to get your arse kicked a few times. Let's face it here, how many mountain bikers are actually race fit? I'd say probably less than 5%. Controversial I know but that's just the way it is. The flipside is that mountain biking is a damned sight more sociable though.

All good points, mtbing is geat to be social but i enjoy getting fitter, the problem being i have hit a brick wall. It would be good to get a group of riders that are local to each other to get some decent paced week day training rides in

I bought a road bike last year with the view to boosting the fitness levels (purely to make the mtb'ing more about the fun and less about the pain). I must admit I never thought I'd enjoy the road riding, but it's proving quite a revelation. As for pushing yourself it's good to set yourself a target. I can never be bothered pushing myself too hard on the mtb, I much prefer to enjoy the social side of things. But on the road I find I can push myself much harder. My target for this year was to beat last years pb from work to home. I managed to smash it today 2009 pb = 28'15" 2010 pb = 25'59" / 21.6mph Avg / 9.41miles Only problem now is I'm already thinking that a sub 25 could be on the cards ;D Can never see the road taking preference over the mtb though Don't think I'm ready to come on a beasting with you yet though Oggy

in the week after a hard day in work sometime i just don't feel like going riding :/ Yep but that's the difference between being a the top of the field and at the back making yourself ride and train when you dont want to is all part of it. The thing is if you got your arse in to gear then you could easily be getting top race results, your fit without training so think what you could do if you got that skinny arse of yours in to gear and did a bit

i know mate its just i see mountain biking has fun and i find that forcing yourself out kind of defeats the object of riding but to be honest i've been getting out alot more now i've started using my dads old hard tail i never bother cleaning it ok its crap on the decents but really good for grinding up the hills i wana get some longer distance weekend rides in to be honest! and another think with the week day riding is that if i go say every other day to either the marin or conway mountain, it costs a bomb in petrol! haha now im just looking for excuses!!!!

I am trying to get fitter by riding more as I have to wait a few more weeks due to the collar bone before I can start circuit training again, usually get out for an hours hilly ride in on the roadie, with a two hr ride thrown in during the week, hopefully I can get a good midweek mtb ride in as its not fair on my family at weekends for me to go out for a good all day ride.
Perhaps when I'm fitter I may give a time trail a go just for the experience.
