Vo2 is done on a bike! Mine of course is excellent at 67!! Have you tested the monitor out on another occasion since? X True VO2 max is calculated with an air flow sensor over your gob and accurate figures on vital capacity and FEV1 etc. I'm off to Bangor Uni at the start of next week for a full assessment with lactate threshold etc. The test's done in gyms based on hr aren't accurate for a cyclist as they're easily overcome by leg strength and the cadence is too low to induce high HR in anyone semi fit. I register at 72 in Le Sport but the reality is that I'm going to be closer to 60 at Bangor.

I have had obscure readings off my garmin Hr monitor occasionaly as high as 240! I contacted garmin and they suggested it could be my clothing causing a build up of static and giving false readings, I have found 1 of my tops is the cause.
Do bangor uni need anymore guinea pigs? Been looking for a while to get this done.

I have had obscure readings off my garmin Hr monitor occasionaly as high as 240! Get some conductive gel from a HRM shop. This improves the contact between the electrodes and your chest thus cleaning up the signals. Mine used to show 240 at times if I was too lazy to use the gel but only on recovery rides where I didn't sweat enough.

Karvonen Method = [(220-Age)-RHR]xTraining Zone (as %)
More accurately, they say any prediction using this method is +/-11bpm.
Reference the VO2max test guys anyway... There is a relatively simple protocol that you can use to predict VO2max using the treadmill or the cycle erg. If anyone is interested I will post it up here.

Obviously it will not be as accurate as expired gas analysis etc, but it offers you a range of possibilities.

Obviously it will not be as accurate as expired gas analysis etc, but it offers you a range of possibilities. I've had V0 2 tests, one at Le Sport gym and another at Bangor Uni, both returned exactly the same results for the max figure. Bangor Uni provided tons more data regarding functional threshold, lactate threshold etc which has helped me make pretty substantial improvements in my timetrialing.
