Since iv got a good old heart rate monitor i was very supprised to see how high i managed to get my heart rate. I always used the old 220 minus your age which would mean my max would be 195 but on the weekend i got to 201 and 202 which is what an 18yr old would have and my average on Saturday was 192 which puts it into the Anaerobic range, is that too high do i need to ease off

Try 220 - age - resting heart rate x what ever percent you wish to work at, say 80% + resting heart

220-Age is the "normal" for "average" Joe bloggs.
If you exercise a lot you can increase you Max HR easily... I wouldn't worry about max HR too much, but depending on what you're trying to train/improve then do pay attention to the training zones!
Something else to think about is that some people have "sport specific fitness". I can run a half marathon in under 3 hours with no training, but yet I cannot swim more than 100 meters or cycle more than 20 miles without dying first! You might have a natural or trained cycle fitness!

Are you sure that it was your average at 192 and not your maximum?

Yep I'm 44 next month and my max god I'm gonna puke any second max is 199. So the 220 minus age +/- 10% calc for Joe Average is not working for me. You could try a controlled test to find your max HR/VO2 Max etc at a Uni Sports science lab or at a prof testing centre. If you google cycling max heart rate you'll see a number of methods for finding it, be careful finding out as God Im gonna puke level is close to feeling faint/woozy. This calc is good start for working out your zones once you know your true max hr www.machinehead-software.co.uk/bike/heart_rate/heart_rate_zone_calculator_abcc_bcf.html

Bluebird,
Cheers for the advice to mate, even my work PTI's say thats rather high but one did say its generic from person to person and i would not say i have natural or trained cycle fitness but thanks anyway ;D

Russ is bang on with his advice, we did the VO2 max test when in uni on the bikes and whilst no-one was sick, 3 people fainted!
Genetics do play more than most give them credit for, my lung capacity was below half my Uni class ( Sports science degree) but yet I could out run most.... Like wise the myth that every fat person is unhealthy, you can be fit and fat!

Mmmm only other explanation is if your battery is running low on your monitor. Sounds stupid question but mine gives readings like that if low battery etc xx
