i went to the Marin today for the first time in a while but before i went i popped down to revolution in bangor to get a new chain, i got a 9 speed SRAM got there put it on with the power link, bout an hour in the thing snapped, didnt have my chain tool with me but luckaly id just passed a group with a puncture, waited for a while and along they came, took out a link and put it back together then next significant climb, the one they just dumped slate waste on it snapped again i was so angry u cudnt belive anyway i was wondering if anyone had any ideas why this happened when i put the chain on i made it the same length as the old one and it was in almost the lowest gear that it broke, i wasnt putting any more pressure on the chain than normal either o and wud drivetrain wear have anything to do with it ?? and does anyone know if SRAM chains are just softer or sumthin ??

Run SRAM for years with no probs. Like martin says, take it back as their not designed to be rejoined with anything other than the powerlink.

Hi,I had a sram pc99 9 speed chain once and it snaped at Llandegla on the first climb. On closer analasis one of the links had splayed apart and was a job to fix.I was told by someone that it was a lightweight chain and not made for high stress loads so I got a shimano chain and had no problems. Hope this helps. Tom
