So today was an interesting day!
Last week I decided at the last minute to joint a load of my friends and attempt the 50km MTB Half Marathon Held at Grassington, an hour from my current home.
I didn’t have an entry, so kindly picked up Dave's entry from the 'Buy and Sell' section with the condition that I posted a note on the forum (ta da!). He brilliantly changed y category and distance so there were no problems when I turned up.
There were about 9 of us doing the race, from my friend Jenny doing the 25km to a few serious racers doing the 80km.
We all set off this morning feeling pretty miserable as the wind was very strong, and due to the change of start, we had a 5km climb almost immediately with a ‘en mass’ start. Boo!
Anyway, 17km in and I’m doing ok, my friend Badger (don’t ask) is in front which is just in sight which is god as he is fast.
At 19km I enter the second hill steep tarmac and the ‘end of the world’ wind and rain started. This was a low point.
The downs were grassy and wide, brilliant. Think I may have annoyed a few people here by cutting them up.
About 25km into the race two girls passed me (grrrrr!). I tried to catch them, but just didn’t push myself enough as I didn’t how far round I was.
Anyway, to cut a long rambling story short I arrived at the last down hill, wet cold wind swept and pushing like mad to come in 3rd lady with a time of 3 hour 15mins. Big grins.
Thanks to the extra riding I’ve been doing with you guys, it definitely paid off!!
I am going to try and train and maybe do one of these stupid races again!
May have pictures to follow.
