me and scott did the hippos heaven challenge at grizedale
it 's the first proper mtb event we've done
boy did we pick a right one
it started to rain early eve on sat
rain hammed down on tent all night [ that 's the last time i pitch the tent under trees ]
got our first soaking of the day putting tent away
went to register then back to van and hope the rain stop
got numbered up and a nice change of cloths
where at start line surrounded by 300 other fools
and where off
it's a 2 lap challenge with plenty of climbs
some very muddy single track in some places it was like lava
some rocky single track which was running like a river
and mix of the 2 above
some board walks thown in which are part of the red trail
first lap went well the mud in the eyes was the worst in some places i just shut my eyes and hoped
second lap the mud and rain now was relentless fatigue set in and a couple me and the bike parting for a moment then on one of nice flowing rocky single tracks i say hello to a rock and bend hanger and make a litte music with the spooks . gently bend hanger back and carry on i've got most of my gears so just keep going and going the end has to be soon .now it hurts my eyes are sore i seem to have slowed right down but keep pushing as hard as i can [ i cant let him pass me now the finnish has got to be soon ] this is it the last section of up hill track turn corner oh crap there another up hill section now this has to be it turn corner i can see raillings and flags that it i made it a nice cheer from the crowd and its all over
aprox 313 riders rode
aprox 103 dnf
steve time 4.42.27
aprox place 126
scott 4.46.42
life in the old man yet
suprise of the stats is tarbos time of 4.47.15 and he was'nt there
that was a new way of enjoying mountain biking may be a willy wave at some stage
god my eye are sore i'll skick up a picture soon
