Hi guy's
New to the forum with probably a typical newbie question but hers goes...
I have recently been introduced to the trails at Llandegla and after nipping up a few times just running the blue trial I got round the red trail in about 1 hour 20 mins weekend before last, now i have read a few comments on here about people doing this in about 2 hours. What is the average time for the red trail as i'm thinking i may have missed a bit of the route? I did return on Saturday and went round again with a mate but that took about 2 hours as he was having a few problems! Sorry to bore everyone, i'm just curious!

Neil,
First of all welcome.
Now the average time for the Red is around 1hr 30m Red and 1hr 50 Black (Stand to be corrected) some people may take 2hrs to do the Red depending on fitness levels and other things, i did the Red in 1hr 50 taking in the mast section which involves a slight detore which adds around 25mins i think.
Also find that on my own im quicker than with a group which can add time with longer stops etc. I dont think you missed anything its very well signposted, the only bit i can think of is JJ's jumps did you pass that where you go under the bridge? other that that i think you did it in the right time.

My last time for the Red is 6 and a half hours. This is because I stopped to feed the giant ducks, and after 4 hours of sitting there, waiting for them eat the food, I realised they were made of wood ;D Seriously though, I think the last time I did it, it took about just over 2 hours, but I'm not the fittest and I like to stop for a breather...and walk some of the uphill.

I don't think people should get too hung up on the time it takes to ride a certain trail. However fast you are there is always someone faster. I get much more out of meeting new peep's and sharing experience's (past and present) than I ever could out of beating my best time. That said I did time myself on the red last year non-stop and clocked 1hr7min. I told a friend in work and he said he could do it in under 1hr. He then suggested he could be my pace man if I wanted to break the hour. Stupidly I agreed. I followed this annoyingly fit bloke (who will remain nameless, you know who you are ) around the red route with him barking his orders, "come on this is where we'll make some time up", "big push", "keep going", "get back in the big ring", "work those legs", "push through the burn" will you shut the F up Anyway point is at the end of it all I collapsed in the carpark not really knowing what I had been doing for the last 11mile, unable to breath, didn't have any fun, legs were on bloody fire, etc, etc. If I thought that was what MTBing was all about I don't think I'd bother. Out of interest: Time 1Hr1min Bugger Oh well there's alway's next year ;D ;D ;D ;D

My thoughts exactly mate, that little speech should be the MBNW forum motto ;D The social side of MTBing is a big thing for me - meeting new people, chatting sh1t on the trails, post-ride pint, etc. That is the spirit of the MBNW Forum Rides ;D That was emotional, i'm welling up now

Sorry guy's I didn't post this question because i was interesed in times etc, it was because I am certainly not this fittest or quickest and i was wondering if i had misssed a part of the route off as i though it would take me longer than the time i did, upon coming on here and seeing times of 2 hours being banded about i thought i may had missed something out. Sorry for the confusion

If it was the red route, and you were taking your time, stopping a few times then I'd say that you maybe did miss a bit out. If you rode at a quick pace non-stop then it could be about right.
BTW, if you did miss any of it out don't worry. The first time I rode Llandegla I ended back in the car park after 15-20 mins. Took a wrong turn.
I think it's quite easy to miss a turn at Llandegla. I think the coloured arrows are slightly to small to see which direction they're pointing if you're bombing it.

Sorry for the confusion neilj; chill out man that piece was wrote tongue in cheek. Next time your going up Llandegla stick up a post and I'm sure a few of us would love to meet up with you and guide you around the route (even pointing out some cheeky side lines on the way). All of the guys I've met through the forum (FTASB not in that way! ) have been great, happy to go at the average mans pace. I've only been a member for a couple of months but have really enjoyed the opportunity to meet like minded people who just like to ride. I'm looking forward to seeing more of our fantastic countryside over the coming months whilst having the security of riding with people with local knowledge. So far I've not met anyone who takes themselves too seriously, just a bunch of loons who enjoy the crack ;D long may that continue
