This has probably been asked before but does anybody run ust rims (such as the Mavic 819) and what do people think of them? Still haven't got round to upgrading my wheels.
Also does anyone kow of someone good locally who stocks/builds wheels? (Bangor/Llandudno/Betws area)
(The other option is to go for some hope hoops with stans flow but cant find any in stock anywhere and have read not so good things (true/untrue?) about sealing tyres on them).

(The other option is to go for some hope hoops with stans flow but cant find any in stock anywhere and have read not so good things (true/untrue?) about sealing tyres on them). I bought a set of Hope Hoops with Stans Flow rims a couple of weeks ago and find them superb now. I'm running tubeless with non-UST tyres (the new Maxxis Ardent exo with the sidewall protection) and they sealed really easily (i do have a compressor mind). I checked my pressures this morning and lost about 4lbs in 2 weeks so happy with that to be honest. I ordered through 18 bikes in Hope (funnily enough - the village which named the Hope Valley) as they are a Tech Dealer so got me some built with the red hubs. I was quoted 3 weeks lead time but they rang me to say they were in after 11 days. The wheels were a little dearer than most places but i got the tarty red hubs and they threw in the Stans Tubeless kit free when i bought tyres and extra sealing milk from them. Cracking shop and service. www.18bikes.co.uk/I did drive over (stunning drive down Winnats Pass - i can feel me organising a forum ride over there next summer!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3iQBwlpcjg) but they will also post.

Dyls I've got a set of Hope hoops (pro2 hubs with stans crest rims ) they come with both 15mm adaptors and normal quick release also a couple of spare spokes . The Crest rims are lighter than the Flows and up to now (fingers crossed) strong enough for the type of riding I do . I've only used them with UST tyres ( Mountain King 2.2) and had no problem getting them to inflate with a track pump . I think Martin at 1868 deals with Hope . Catch you soon Fella

Am I right im thinking that the crest rims have 26 spokes and the flows have 32? Im hopeless at making up my mind.

Martin @ 1886 managed to get me a pair of Pro2 straight pull flows in two days last week ordered Tuesday he had them on Thursday. Quality rims easy to maintain and light, use Stan's kit from Hope and they seal really well. Very pleased so far and the fact that Hope's customer service is second to none you cant go wrong. ;D. Oh and the flows are 32 hole ;D

The Flow's are slightly wider, 100g heavier and a safe assumption to say correspondingly stronger. Which to go for depends on you really - if you eat loads of pies and drink lager / batter the trails / use 2.3" or bigger tyres then go for the Flow's (my choice for the former 2 reasons!!) If you're not a f&t barsteward, for general riding then the Crest will probably be more than strong enough with a decent amount of rotational mass lost (where it matters most)

The Hope Hoops are supposedly coming back into stock in late October so will probably treat myself to a new wheelset, either flows or crests I think.

Winstanley Cycles have them in stock and are a pretty good price generally. Worth checking out if you're happy with the black hubs (unlike me who wanted red - what a tart) - they have the Straight Pull pro2's in atm.

Not wishing to be disparaging about a company but I ordered my wheels from Winstanleys on the 9th September, they then told me it would be18th October before they are in, then they said 22nd October but couldn't guarantee this. I therefore told them to stick it and got them from Martin
