I intended on going up Drum today until i got up there and the wind was battering me and the odd heavy shower changed my mind. It was a good ride, up there all on my own appart from a few sheep, No I didnt touch any of them!!! ;D
If you have never done this ride i stopped to take some pics of the rough route I took. They are not the best, but until I buy memory map to do it propperly they will have to do!
I headed up up from my house to the Pillars at the top of Mountain Lane. The start of the jubilee path.
.
At the pillars, turn right and head up the track all the way to the top.
When you get to the top keep to the right and follow the track to the 1st gate, you cant miss it! it looks like this ;D
.
Look down the wall to the left and you will see a wooden style (marked 1) Go over that and follow the path all the way down to a river, Cross the river using the bridge and head up the other side right tothe brow of the hill so you are over looking the conwy river and up the valley.
When you get to the top, keep to the right and head towards a stone wall and some BIG trees. stay on that track and it will take you round behind Tal-y-Fan.
You will get to a point where you can see this hill in the pic below
Follow the path down in the direction of the arrows and up the other side. Heading for the dip in the hills at the top. If you go through the river that runs down the track your going in the right direction.
When you get to the top of that brow, the track forks, take the right fork shown in the pic
Follow the trail all the way keeping the stone wall on your left. Stay on this trail until you come down to a house in the middle of nowhere. You will go through about 6 gates to get there and probably hit about 20 sheep ;D
At the bottom you will come to the main tarmac road that takes you up to the car park at the start of the roman road. Turn right at the tarmac road up to the car park.
Go through the gate for one of the best downhills around here, (in my opinion!)
The roman road will take you all the way down into Aber. Before that you will come to a Cross roads in the trail which will either take you down to llanfairfechan, up to Drum or straight on to Aber.
Look at the downhill into Aber, Its got to be done ;D
I usually head down to the bottom of Aber and hit the road home, that gives me a quick fix for the day.
