Here's my current ride It's a cyclocross bike that's got me over a few hills and one or two mountains recently but I want a proper mountain bike now Off to look for some advice on what to get.

Welcome! Depends what kind of mtb-ing you want do do; if it's just cross country and natural trails the Giant Anthem X is a good full sus and light; but if you get into doing drop offs you'll ruin it in a couple of years. The other guys will inform you about drop offs

The type of mountainbike will depend on what you're going to ride, short travel (100mm) for smoothish crosss country type riding and bigger travel for rougher, more tehnical places. However the bigger the travel, the bigger the bike weight.
You can test bikes at CYB, they will refund the cost if you buy a bike off them. 100mm is probably a bit short for CYB imo, but only you can decide this after testing.
