I have ordered a new sram x9 derailuer to replace my exsisting one, however I may of ordered the wrong one as they come with short, medium & long cages, I ordered the short cage version thinking that that would give me more clearence, but now I am thinking that may be for downhill rigs as most mtb bikes seem to have long cages. Can anyone advise please.

The short cage wont work with a three chain ring set up as there wont be enough stretch in mech to cope with the differing lengths of chain that a 3 ring chainset requires
