I got the wheels I ordered off merlin this morning, Knock on the door, big parcel, BONUS ;D ;D Anyway I opened the box and pulled em out, back wheel, fine BUT, the front wheel looked like it had been ridden up and down snowdon a few times, scratches all over the rim, Take a look Couldn't believe it, a brand new rim that looked like that. Foned them up to rant and this was the explanation he tried to pass onto me. 'Unlike Mavic DT Swiss don't anodize their rims because they think it compromises the rims strength so its not uncommon to get some scratches due to them just having a painted finish' I emailed them the pics and got a phonecall back pretty sharpish saying, 'oh yeah they are bad eh' My question was 'who the hell let them go into the box like that'? Anyway the back wheel is staying and the other is getting picked up on Monday to go back. I can safely say its the last thing i buy from them!

Oh my god, I'd have hit the roof! I hate when that sort of thing happens, surely someone inspects these things before they go out to the customer! Black mark for merlin then.

Thats exactly what i said to him on the fone, Surely someone looked at the wheels one last time before they went in the box, All he could say was 'yeah they should have' There was no way it happend in transit because they were well packaged. Personally i think they knew they were damaged and just took the chance and sent them. I am raging, i will no doubt have to wait another week for my front wheel to turn up now.

I hate the service we put up with in this country. Sucks! Oh well, at least it's nothing essential.

Ive put a post up about Merlin a week or so back, they dont seem to give a damn when you ring them, just no enthusiasm towards customers at all.
When I spoke to them earlier I just got this feeling of a 'whatever' attitude.

Not good at all. A little customer service goes a long way. I for one would rather pay extra for the experience. I use Wiggle and Chain reaction for all my kit, it just pains me that no LBS can ever hope to provide their levels of service and customer care. Merlin are supposed to be the connoisseurs of wheel building but on this showing can you really guarantee that they've put their heart and soul into producing the best possible set of wheels? ?

I wish I could have used my LBS but they couldnt come near to the price I paid. Its a shame, there is no way in this world they would have knocked out substandard work like that.

Shame, Its annoying i got my Hayes Stroker Trail disks because they were at a great price and i couldnt find anyone that would comeclose to that and they came ready to fit even though the front cable is slightly to short, it really does put me off buying anything from there now.

This lot got worse yesterday. On friday on seeing the damage to the wheel they said they would get it picked up monday morning, so I said I would drop it off at the nearest parcel force depot to get it away and so I didnt have to wait around on Monday. Turns out the nearest depot was deeside so I foned merlin and said I couldnt drop it of so they said they would arrange pick up for Monday. Monday afternoon came and no parcel force. I foned merlin to get the answer, oh the message that you couldnt drop it off didnt get passed on, AAAAAARGH
