Hey all, my deore LX left shifter isnt returning to its neutral position after I have shifted up on the front mech. I've checked the cable and it runs smoothly. It will shift up and down quite happily but I just have to give the shifter a bit of encourangement to come back again. I've sprayed GT-85 around it but it hasn't helped. I'm wary of opening the thing up just in case something pings or falls out and leaves me in a worse position than I'm in now. Any ideas on how to fix it? I've had a brief look on line but can't find anything useful

If you take the plastic covers off nothing should ping out (I lost the screws for mine and it's held together with insulation tape now). Sounds like there's something up with the spring. It might've come off a mounting lug, or the lug might've broken. You could try taking both off, taking the covers off and doing a spot the difference. Look here for an idea of what I mean: www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=16752978&sid=032385a6a2c37bbab0cef96688f2e305#16752978 ;D They might not officially be serviceable, which is why you can't find any instructions on tinterweb (Sora levers aren't serviceable, but that doesn't mean you can't repair them)

I'd do as thistle says. Just take off the plastic covers give it a really good spraying with wd40 or something similar. Let it dry get some light grease in there if the problem is still there take the shifter to where you got it from and ask them to send off to shimano. These shift ARE NOT serviceable so there's not much you can do if the wd doesn't work.

Well that depends how good you are with Dremels and metalwork If they're under warranty of any sort then definitely send them back to be fixed like Craig says. Why waste your time bodging it which might not work? (Oh I forgot, engineers like that sort of thing ;D)

(Oh I forgot, engineers like that sort of thing ;D) I'm sorry, Peter, but are you suggesting that us engineers follow the example of Heath-Robinson occasionally? I take take exception to such statements - I've never been known to bodge anything in my life! Chuff it up big time, however? Absolutely!!! Anyway thanks for your suggestions, both Pete and Craig. The shifters are 3 years old now so probably not under warranty so I'll open it up and go in over the weekend. Wish me luck...
