mid ride last night noticed BB shell on drive side "Floating" about, already had threads re-cut a couple o months ago so figure its FU"£KD. . Have come across these guys www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/who will for the reasonable sum of £60 re-cut and fit a steel Heli-coil. I will let you know how it goes as I dont think this is uncommon

I put my mate on to this lot when he had the same problem with his Marin and he was so excited (he doesn't get out much) that he took it down there himself and had a natter with them whilst he was there . He's more than chuffed with everything so you should be ok

I ordered my bearings and stuff from BETD in the end.
I found the ordering online a bit tedious and it took ages to send the stuff out. Phoned them up to get something else about 4pm and it arrived the next day, was pretty impressed with the personal service.
The problem with threaded things on MTBs is the frame is normally made from soft aluminium, whereas the things like bottom brackets that screw in are made from hard steel so threads strip easily. I understand Helicoils are steel so provided it stays in, it should last for ages.

Yeah to be fair its pretty poor engineering practice on Bike mfr's part in my opinion to be putting these fine threads into alu. Good practice would be to slip in a Stainless Steal Helicoil at the factory Rant Over (for now) someone should come up with a press fit bottom brkt
