This is how the mountain bike routes (VTT) are marked. Makes British routes lacking organisation and of course in France we can ride the "randonne" Walking routes (where lack of large boulders make it possible) without being moaned at by "ramblers"; the sharing is amicable with a "bon jour" when passing; but we rarely see anybody during our rides.

What is the name of the pass in the pic two up. It's somewhere I just have to ride before I die.

Sitting in McD's in Briancon (will have changed a bit since you climb there Gwynedd). The pass in the nest to last picture Doug is at Larche on the Italian border a few miles from Barcconelette; the mountains in the back ground are the Mercantour National Park and no bikes allowed up that valley (pity) but this trail is marked as a "family route" the start was 2km tarmac climbing steadily up 10% and12% banks opening out into a hanging valley; climbs to the top of the col Larche and then returns the same way. Family route is a euphimism for Blue with Red bits.

When there are views like this who cares if it's cold. Nearly at 6000ft near Courmayure called Val Ferret. Nearing the end of the tour the weather has turned cool and crossing the col St Bernard there was an inch of fresh snow at the side of the road. Back to GB weather soon
