Help I've got a seized seat post and its driving me mad, I've sprayed it every day for the last month with wd40 with no joy. I've had a go with plus gas tonight and ditto . Anybody got any ideas ?, Thanks in advance

Contact mbnw's very own Summittoppler, his has been seized for about 12 months now and he's learnt to live with it so maybe you could get together and form a support group :-)

Is it an aluminium post in an aluminium frame?
My usual trick it to roast it with a blowtorch - the metal expands a little and helps free things up. I've never used it on a frame though - manly as it may look I don't really want the paint half burnt off.
You could try pouring boiling water over it to see if that has the same effect?
Hobbitfeet's suggestion is also a good trick to try.

Thanks for the replies so far, bit worried about being left with a split post stuck in frame if I force it to much, don't know if that could happen ? A support group for for the select few who suffer with stuck seat syndrome now your talking ;D

Yeah its an Ali frame I take it that its an Ali post, may try the boiling water , same as you with thoughts of blow torch bit worried about paint. I may have to try and live with it unless the water works. Thanks for the reply

There's more tips here from good old Sheldon Brown: www.sheldonbrown.com/stuck-seatposts.html : - Be careful about wiggling it in a vice (in case the bracket at the top snaps). - WD40, PlusGas etc. are apparently no use if it has corroded but something with ammonia in might work. - The liquid nitrogen trick sounds good, please post a video if you try this one
