My rear shock is broken. It won't hold 140 psi and drops to 100 after about an hours riding, and there's wear on the shaft.
It's probably going to be cheaper to buy a reasonably second hand one than get it serviced/repaired but as my bike is a Trance X, the shock size is weird.
I've got the Giant own brand shock at the moment (these occasionally come up for sale but not often) but the Fox ones on the better models are the same size.
The eye to eye is 184mm and the stroke 44mm.
There's plenty of 190mm eye to eye and 50mm stroke shocks around. Would fitting one of these have a noticeable adverse effect on the bike? It would have to be compressed by 6mm to get it to fit and hey presto I'd have the same amount of stroke left so the travel shouldn't change, unless it raises my BB....

Mojo can shorten shocks if thats any help, not sure how much it costs, but they will do it with second hand ones as well...

I think if I went down that route it would be a similar cost to getting the old one repaired. You can also get offset bushes which are usually used to increase the length and drop the bottom bracket lower but they aren't that cheap.

Take out one of the old shock mount bolts and cycle the rear wheel the extra 6mm to see if you will have any clearance or rocker issues with a stock 190mm shock. if not then slam one in and run a couple of mil extra sag.
Think about the BB height when your on the bike rather than it just standing there unladen.
