The botton bracket on my Rockhopper is a little gritty and doesn't spin as freely as it once should. Obviously i want to sort this before i put the bike up for sale.
Specialized list it as a "Shimano outboard cartridge bearing design (included with FC-M532 2pc crank)" Is that a Hollowtech II?
What options are available to me? Are they serviceable? Or are they cheaper to just replace?
I dont have the tools (Assuming i'd need specific tools that is), nor do i know what i'm doing, so will probably be a bike shop jobbie, but would like to know what my options are before i head down there.

ive taken a few bottom brackets out, aint that difficult just so many different types and some need specific tools to take em out
mine sounded a bit gritty so i took it out cleaned it and greased it then put it back in and it was fine, i think all shimano ones are outboard cartridge bearings, if it has a big hole in the middle is hollowtech but you dont have to put hollowtech back in
i have a crappy BB in my bike when i got it then i replaced it with a hollowtech to save weight
if you take it to your local bike shop im sure they wud sort u out no problem

I've got a plain old taper bb and matching Shimano M442 triple MTB crank set which has done only 50 miles or so. It's just below Deore in the range, so nothing particulary clever but it is almost new and smooth as you like so could be OK before you sell the bike. £15 for both. You could borrow the tool for fitting or bring the bike round and we'll sort it out. PM me if you're interested.

Just ordered a Superstar Hollowtech bottom bracket for £20 We took the old one off and found one of the cups was a bit gritty. Wouldn't feel happy about selling it like that. Did think about trying to get it done under warranty, but Chester is a fair trek from here and would probably cost the same in petrol as the Superstar BB does.
