Hi, Myself anda few friends (although the list is growing) have decided on a road trip to morzine for next year, we are planning to drive there and camp/stay in campers and have already found some places to stay ect.
Now i was thinking of going prehaps the very begining of june as we would rather it was a bit quiet and so want to go before the madness of the PDS however, seeing as none of us have been before we are a little stumped as to if this is a good time to go, weather wise and lifts wise, ive read conflicting things about when the lifts open so would like to hear it from someone who actually goes. also what sort of cost is a lift pass for a week and does that cover you for all lifts in the area?
cheers jon

A large amount of the lifts wont be open at the start of junes. The passportes week is usually the first week they are all open, its a good week to go and its not that busy with still only small lift ques. Lift pass will cost ya no more than 100euros for about 7 days so no where near as expensive as skiin and the pass covers the whole region so you will only need the one pass that can be bought from most lift stations.
Weather can be bad at any time of the summer so there aint any safe bets there really, it can piss it down for the whole week or it can be blistering hot for the whole week, its all down to luck on that front as the weather is very changeable.

Ok thats great, to be honest im not to bothered about weather, obviously some sun would be great but i'l take my chances!
So i assume that the PDS is on a weekend, and that we should be ok on the week leading up to the event, maybe even taking in a day or 2 of the event itself. I must admit i had thought about prehaps doing a day on the PDS but reading your report of last year has put me off, dont think id be in the mood for climbing with all those lifts on offer! Did you go again this year? i wish we'd of aranged it for this year now, not sure i can wait a whole year LOL

Well at least I've got plenty of time to get my van ready for the trip.

Yep we went again this year northwalesmtb.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ridedays&action=display&thread=7432to be honest the passportes is okay and would have been sweet on a trail bike but not on big bikes. You actually use all the lifts but do some uphill bits inbetween rather than the main dh runs. Could be worth doing it for 1 day, its not an actual race but more of a sign posted route with beer and food stops and its a great way to check the whole area out in one ride. The passportes is on a weekend and if you do think of doing it then it would be best to do at the start of your hol as you will see all the different areas in one day which will help you out for the rest of your stay.

Nowt definate for 2012 to be honest. We are thinking maybe a mega highland trip instead this year. The first year we went Morzine was wicked but to be honest last year was no where near as good, the trails were totally beaten up so we are thinking of somewhere else for the next trip abroad some where with more natural single track with trail bikes rather than full on DH runs (still uplifted of coarse ) If we get anything on the go then ill keep you in the loop dude

Sounds like a plan, I want to try some of these gravity rounds and just general hooligan/grin factor. Must be serious as the Giant is being re-built :-)
