Me and the Mrs had just finished riding Conwy mountain/Tal y Fan on Saturday and wwere packing the bikes back into the car on the road leading to the start of the Conwy Mtn climb (thro arch, left over rail bridge, then on right by tree lined road) when 4 mtb's rode past and said hi. Would have been about 11:30 - 12 ish. Was that you lot by any chance??

You were wern't you! Hope you showed your passport at the border ha ha!! Weather was brilliant wasn't it. Looks like that may be the last of it for now though so get out those winter tyres and get prepared for more falling off ihn the gloop !! Did you do the super steep road climb past the Youth Hostel before you go thro a number of field gates then pop out onto tarmac at start of the Roman Road?? That sure tests your legs and lungs. Steepest climb I know of round these parts.

That looks like it was a great ride. Great pics!
I find the single track section (where Martin had the off) is better from the other direction--there are a few two footish drops on that tight trail. There are so many variations to get to the same place up there. There is also a route through Druids Circle to the top of Tal y Fan with a great down hill to the Roman Road.
Sorry to have missed that blast out on my doorstep ride!

The only thing with going all the way to Aber is the long road section back to Dwygyfylchi. I prefer to drop down at the Drum crossroads( great fast downhill) join the lane turn right, down to and over little bridge, right again and then on road climb to turn right onto N Wales Path. Follow this behind the quarries, past stone circles all the way back of road to Conwy. Awesome ride, great views and avoids all that horrible and dangerous road riding.

I know exactly where you mean there, I ride that a lot from pen, up, over and home, a nice quick fix. My problem is, when I get to the Drum X roads, the temptation of that downhill to Aber is just too much ;D ;D I dont mind the road ride back, It lets me chill out and wind down from all the climbing and raggings from the downhills. But your right, the road ride isnt too safe, having to cross the dual carridgeway to get back into Pen is dangerous, they are working on that now by the looks of things.
