Why is all this fuss happening now though, as the trail (loop 1) has been 'open' since 2005?Maybe moving the trail head away from Penmachno is the answer to the otherside of the hill near Betws/Dlwyddelan.

Since the proposed development of a carpark & Visitor's centre and the following objections to that, I suppose you can't blame the Trail builders for resigning when they can't get support from the locals and village, I guess the village can't see the wood from the trees. I think your right Dyls, Dolwyddelan would be a much better option and a natural linkup much more fisable.

I've always found the ride a bit short anyway and so we always park up in Betws and ride there form behind the Cotswold bargain shop through to Dolwyddelan road then over the little bridge which takes you up to the Penmachno road where you pop out by the mill, just a couple of road miles then into the village. A couple of good steep hill climbs on the way out get you niclely warmed up for the start of the Trail and then at the end it's a nice down hill road ride back into Betws. Far better than trying to drive to the head of trail car park.

And people wonder why these communities are dying. Surely they should of grasped the opportunity with both hands especially after the success of Llandegla. The trail could bring big economic benefits to the locals.

I expect shops & cafes in Betws Y Coed would be against anything that could take potential footfall and trade away from the town, also on the same token CYB would frown upon a rival trail centre, however the 7 Stanes works well so why not something along the same lines in Wales.

Money being spent locally in the shops, pubs, b&b's etc. Not to mention a fortune to be made selling first-aid kit, as the war-wounds section will testify ;D
