As a word of caution to all you people like me who haven't looked after your forks- do something about it as your new years resolution. Just come back from Stendec with mine and they're not worth repairing as the stantions are damaged. Mike is doing the lower service to them now to keep them limping on until i can find some new ones. Anyone seen any 120m travel Rebas at a good discount anywhere? Whats the difference with the coil forks and the air ones- is it just weight? they are a bit cheaper.

You have to play around with Air forks to get it right, changing pressures etc while coil doesnt require much for you to do, maybe change a spring if its too hard etc and yes air forks weigh less than coil.
How much you looking to spend Sal?

Not bought any yet Sal, but would look seriously at Merlin if I get round to it. To be honest even with worn stanchions they aren't totally dead, the problem is more that the dirt can get in than that oil or air get out, so you have to service them more and more often to keep running smooth.

Doesn't match the new colour scheme on my bike, and would need new bearings.

I personally would invest in some Enduro seals soon as. there is an oil seal which is really tight to stantion then a wiper seal (depends what fork you get) and a scraper seal which doesnt let anything get passed. Well worth the investment. Dave at stendec said for the rockshox between the oil seal and wiper seal fill the cavity with judy butter (grease) then this will keep the stantions running smooth. www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/result.asp?CategoryID=366&Name=ENDURO+Fork+Seals+

Anyone seen any 120m travel Rebas at a good discount anywhere? mine have been damaged for months and work ok. They aren't as plush as before and need servicing more often now but it's given me enough time to shop around for new ones. You missed the 2011 rebas on wiggle with remote for £187 then? And yes you can up them to 120mm travel by taking the spacer out. Merlin ones were priced ok but they have stopped doing vip club discount, and aren't replying to emails so i went elsewhere.

Not sure about the 100 to 120 conversion, looks like you have to know the guts of the fork fairly well to do that. I also don't really understand how taking a spacer out would make the travel longer?
My problem is I can't see anyone selling a 2012 RL without bar mounted lockout, as it's just bar clutter which I never use. It's supposed to be an option, as is the bolt thru hub, but nobody is selling (with stock)?
Karl - are you saying the Enduro seals are so much better than the Rock Shox standard that you should change immediately on new forks?

when i went to Stendec, Dave told me to try to get the forks without the bar mounted lockout as its just extra stuff to go wrong- but as you say it doesn't seem to be an option now. he also said that if you have them serviced before you use them he will put an extra seal in to stop any muck getitng in. apparently they are made very sparingly. and they don't put enough oil in them either i learnt more about forks in the 20 mins that i was there than i ever knew- what a top guy ;D
